TRAUMA FOCUSED THERAPY

Traumatic events include physical, psychological, and sexual abuse; terrorism and war; domestic violence; witnessing violence against others; and accidents and natural disasters. They can result in serious stress and detrimental consequences for survivors and their families.  Approximately one half (50%) of all individuals will be exposed to at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. According to the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, one in three girls and one in five boys will experience sexual abuse prior to the age of 18.  Many survivors currently living with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) experience symptoms that are both chronic and severe. These include: nightmares, insomnia, somatic disturbances, difficulty with intimate relationships, fear, anxiety, anger, shame, aggression, suicidal behaviors, loss of trust, and isolation.

Dr. Coleman completes a thorough trauma-focused assessment in order to provide a customized and collaborative treatment plan.  She is trained in multiple evidence based trauma-focused interventions including, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), narrative psychology, prolonged exposure, and integrative treatment for complex trauma (ITCT). Dr. Coleman’s trauma focused treatment encompasses safety, creativity, empathy, and expertise.

To schedule an appointment and discuss fees and payment plans please contact info@drmarissacoleman.com.  Initial assessments are 1.5 hours long, and all standard therapy sessions are 45-50 minutes. There are limited sliding scale spots available. The practice accepts Georgia Medicaid and WellCare CMO insurance.  The practice does not bill additional insurance companies, but does provide patients with the documentation needed to apply for reimbursement from out-of-network insurance benefits.
